Career in Modeling

Fashion Modeling is one of the fascinating careers among the youngsters through out the globe since mid eighties. It is one of the professions, known for its glamour, instant popularity and high earning. As the career Modeling is extremely challenging and that’s the reason there is a tough competition. Qualification and Eligibility for Modeling

Not all people can be a Model, as the fashion industry has set certain standards. There is an age limit set, as girls may start at the early age of 15 to 22 and boys may start from 18 to 25. A model must have a physical attribute with unique facial features the minimum heights should be 5’8’’ & 5’11’’ for female & male respectively.

To be a Model, there is no need of specific qualification to enter into this modeling career. Keeping in mind the craze for modeling career, there are many universities and institutes offering modeling courses.

The first thing, one has to prepare is a Portfolio and should approach to AD agency. Moreover, the second way is to apply for the contests sponsored by different Magazines, Cosmetics Company, cloth manufactures. The training programs focus on beauty care; make up, hair styling, diet & exercise, how to present oneself, carry oneself and how to walk. It also teaches how to make a contract and its technicalities. Moreover, a person must be versatile and adaptable by nature.

Career Prospects in Modeling

The scopes and career prospects in Fashion Modeling is extremely promising and challenging and it should be noted here, that it is one of the industries in the world where a Woman can earn more than a Man. It is expected to increase the hiring rate by 10 percent to 20% until 2012. In India, there is Advertising Modeling, Print Modeling, Ramp or Live Modeling, Showroom Modeling, Still Modeling, Television Modeling etc.

One may work through Acting, Garments Fair, Live Fashion Shows, Music Videos, Product Advertising and lots many avenues. Even one may open School or Institutes after having good numbers of experience. Today there are lots of opportunities are coming up for the Male Models with expansion of the International Men’s Clothing, Accessories and Cosmetics Industry.

Competition in the industry is extremely high as there is a constant demand for a new or fresh face. Modeling is always considered as the gateway to film industry.

Remuneration in Modeling

The income depends significantly on the type of modeling engagement, years of experience and popularity. Models in India are paid for an entire campaign or duration of the contract. A top model can earn up Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000 per Fashion Show and lakhs of rupees for an Ad Campaign. Beginners and low budgets pay models may start from Rs 5,000 to Rs10,000. Print ads pay on number of photographs being used. Well-reputed magazines pay nearly Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per photograph.
